Donnie Tuck
Former Mayor of Hampton, Virginia — public servant with careers spanning broadcasting, athletics, and local government spanning more than four decades.
Donnie Tuck is the former Mayor of the City of Hampton, Virginia, having served in that position from July 1, 2016 through December 31, 2024. His tenure brought direct experience with regional governance, cross-jurisdictional collaboration, and the complex dynamics of leading one of Hampton Roads' most strategically important cities.
Born August 16, 1954 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Tuck graduated from Chapel Hill Senior High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy Studies from Duke University in 1976. He later completed a Master of Public Administration degree from Old Dominion University in 1993.
Tuck has built distinguished careers across multiple fields — broadcasting, sports information and athletic public relations, technical writing, and local government. He was first elected to Hampton City Council on May 4, 2010, re-elected in 2014, elected Mayor on May 3, 2016, and re-elected as Mayor on May 19, 2020. In his role as mayor, he also served as chair of several regional boards, bringing firsthand knowledge of how Hampton Roads' municipalities work — and can work better — together.
He presently serves on the Board of Directors of Cities United, a national organization focused on reducing gun violence and creating better opportunities for young Black men and boys. He also serves as the City of Hampton's representative on the Virginia Peninsula Community College Board of Trustees.
Tuck is married to Robie Tuck (Major, USAF Ret.) and has a daughter, Elizabeth.
